for Youth Groups and the Public.

Covid 19 caused many changes.

But Steve Midson and Midair Models are Still Here!

to help you with lightweight, easily made superb Flying Models, both at kits and group workshops.

However the Boat Models and some of the previously available Aircraft Models are No longer available, and only those pictured below can be supplied on a ‘ Make up kit to order ‘ basis – they will not be held in stock.

Workshops
For Boys and Girls of all ages above 6 years.
At Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Boys Brigade, Girl Guides, Schools

We provide All Materials, Tools ( including scissors ), Glue, Colouring items and consumables….

…and we lead the group in the activity. But helpers welcome.

A typical youth group workshop (depending on the age of those present) starts with an introduction to flight and a display of lightweight indoor flying models.

Followed by cutting out the pieces and assembly of the model, together with colouring and glueing on of their selected card Pilots, and paper decorations on a provided sheet.

Following test flying, some competitions (if appropriate), and all go home happy!

Models Available for Group Making are :

Delta II – usually for 6–8-year-olds, with assembly by us. Glider 18 cm span.

Delta III – Requires the maker to assemble and glue together. 8 Years plus. Glider 18 cm span

Fees

  • The charge for Group Workshops is a basic travel and general expense (based on distance) plus a fee per model.
  • Costs for Public Workshops are by arrangement and makers pay for each model.

WE ARE ALSO ABLE TO PROVIDE PUBLIC WORKSHOPS…

…at suitable Indoor locations – model shows, air shows etc.

Sorry we are unable to include pictures of happy youngsters working away.

At public workshops, in addition to the Delta Gliders we are also able to make :

Zippy – For younger makers and those who find cutting out with scissors difficult, a simple push-together model with a range of pilots and decorations to colour, cut out and glue on (with assistance if needed).

Aeroplane Kits :

Models Available for group making are :

Delta II – usually for 6 – 8 year olds with assembly by us. Glider, 18 cm span.

Delta III – requires the maker to assemble and glue together, 8 years plus. Glider, 18 cm span

WW II Aircraft – Mustangish – easy straight cutting out and assembly. Glider, 22 cm span.

Spitfireish – careful curved cutting out required, easy assembly. Glider, 22 cm span

These are Not scale models hence the ‘ish‘, and can be elastic band launched.

Kwikie – rubber powered propeller model. 29 cm span.

In all cases line drawings of pilots and deorations are provided for the maker to colour, cut out and glue on – to give the model ownership.

These are suppied with all parts , Fully detailed Instructions and a decorations sheet.

You will need to provide scissors, pva, white hobby / woodworking glue, and colouring items.

Simply and easily made these models produce excellent flights in calm conditions outdoors, or indoors eg: a school hall.

Swift : a basic model with a stick fuselage. 30 cm span.

Gannet : looks like a real aircraft. 32 cm span

Wheelie : similar to a Gannet but with wheels – will take off from smooth surface. 32 cm span

Tradfly : Our ‘top of the range’ model with superior flight performance. 40 cm span.

Note: Due to continuing demand, we are still able to supply kits for the advanced Tradfly model, either for free-flight rubber-powered or for the addition of your own supplied radio control equipment. These kits are only supplied to order, please make contact to discuss your requirements.

Zippy : Zippy is a simple push-together model made for young hands and big imaginations. Perfect for colouring, scribbling and decorating, it’s a great hands-on activity for kids visiting the show.

St Albans model show

For the past few years, Midair Models has been at the St.Albans Model Show, running hands-on workshops that bring kids and adults of all ages together around the joy of making. Their tables are always busy, full of creativity, conversation and simple flying models coming to life throughout the day.
